In this tutorial we will show you how to install Malware Detect software (Maldet) on your Ubuntu / Debian Linux Operating System.
Maldet is a piece of software which is specifically designed to find and detect malware injections in all hosting environments (shared hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated server etc…)
To be able to use Maldet you must have SSH access to the server or your hosting account. Maldet is much different than other popular traditional anti-virus programs as rootkits, ClamAV, traditional file-infecting viruses etc… that just look for OS level trojans because Maldet will scan all the files and directories on your system. It’s also very simple to use.
It is particularly effective for scanning and detecting many PHP backdoor injections, darkmailers and ton’s of other malicious/infected files that can be uploaded on a compromised website and used for many different abuse purposes. Maldet will help you to detect any of them and help you clean the infection in the most effective way.
Installing the Malware Detect software on Ubuntu and/or Debian is pretty easy procedure, even if you do not have control panel, but as we already said before, you must have SSH access.
The following steps will show you how to install the Malware Detect software (Maldet) on your Ubuntu / Debian Linux Operating System.
cd /usr/local/src/ wget http://www.rfxn.com/downloads/maldetect-current.tar.gz tar -xzf maldetect-current.tar.gz cd maldetect-* sh ./install.sh or sudo sh ./install.sh maldet --update-ver maldet --update
The next step is to show you how to use Maldet to scan your files/folders for infections.
– So, for example, to scan a folder, let’s say your “/home” directory you should type:
maldet -a /home
And that’s it, all you need to do now is to wait for the scan to finish. Once the scan is done the report will be show.
